Legacy of Green: the Trees and Trails of Indian Hill
This documentary film follows the natural history of this community from its origins as forested land inhabited by Native Americans, through periods of early settlement, deforestation and farming to a residential community today known for more that 3.500 acres of preserved greenspace.
About the Film
The modern Indian Hill we know today was significantly shaped by a group of wealthy Cincinnatians who were looking for fresh air and outdoor recreation in the countryside. Many of the new residents were equestrians who enjoyed foxhunting. Formed in 1925, the Camargo Hunt set about creating bridle trails and by 1940, had built 175 miles of trails throughout the Village. They were the driving force that began the quest of preserving land which still continues today.
Today, the green areas and trails face challenges of invasive species, erosion and pests such as the Emerald Ash Borer. Our bridle trails are close to 100 years old and are showing signs of wear & tear.
The film, Legacy of Green, tells the story of this unique community and inspires a call to action for today’s residents to rise to the challenge of caring for this gift for future generations.
